Who Are We?

Team of Stars (TOS) is a program of Project Change, a youth/adult nonprofit located in Montgomery County, MD, which promotes positive youth development through leadership experiences, quality community service opportunities, the performing arts, and safe social activities. Our organization is based on the following Guiding Principles:

  • We believe that positive youth development is the key to a safe and healthy community.
  • We believe that effective partnerships are built on trust, consensus, and a collective belief in a common purpose

Team of Stars  is funded by the Jim and Carol Trawick Foundation, the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, and the Excel Beyond the Bell Program of the Montgomery County Collaboration Council.  Community Partners include the Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County and Flying V Theatre.  Additional support of offered by Montgomery County Public Schools and the Department of Recreation of Montgomery County.

“C” the Difference Team of Stars Makes

Confidence • Character • Creativity • Compassion

Campers explore a musical’s narrative and formulate introspective questions such as,“What are my fears and dreams?”  Script reading spurs discussions about issues youth face daily.  Creating choreography, designing a set, writing narration, and performing in a musical forms a community of peers and mentors.

Team of Stars integrates life skills training, conflict resolution and musical theater into a combined curriculum, applying  the concept of Restorative Practices (RP), a methodology that emphasizes responsibility and accountability within a caring climate. Our success is reflected in both a very high participant retention rate and the children’s smiles.

With each new season, the stage calls and we return to provide a pathway to healthier tomorrows for some of our area’s most vulnerable citizens.
